SLAMcore Episode I: Building a company to democratise the use of SLAM

In this talk I will give a brief overview of my background and my recent research in visual SLAM and deep learning. After this I will introduce SLAMcore, a UK-based startup from Imperial College that has the goal of democratising the use of SLAM-based solutions in several industries like robotics, AR/VR, drones and autonomous driving. I will describe the company organisation, where we are at the moment and some areas in which we are currently working. Finally I will also mention about internships and employment opportunities.

Pablo F. Alcantarilla received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Alcalá, Madrid, Spain, in 2011. He is currently a Robotics and Vision Scientist in SLAMcore Ltd., London, UK leading the research and engineering efforts of the company.

His research is focused on real-time Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) and 3D reconstruction techniques for vision-based localization and perception. In addition, his research also covers robust feature extraction and deep learning techniques for a different range of applications.

He has worked on several research institutions and corporations around the world such as: Advanced Laparoscopy and Computer Vision Group (ALCoV), Clermont-Ferrand, France; School of Interactive Computing, Georgia Insitute of Technology, Atlanta, USA; Toshiba Research Europe, Cambridge, UK and iRobot Corporation, London, UK.
