Laura Po is a Web and Data Scientist based in Modena, Italy. Since 2020, she works as an Associate Professor at the "Enzo Ferrari" Engineering Department of the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia and participates as a senior researcher in the Big Data Research Group (http://www.dbgroup.unimo.it/).
Her scientific activity is mainly aimed at the problem of information representation and management, with reference to models and methods, her research interests include Big Dataset Visualization, Web and Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence techniques, Knowledge and Ontology Design, Word Sense Disambiguation, Data Stream Management, Linked (open) data, Open Government and Smart Cities. Her theoretical research activity has always been accompanied by the experimentation of research through the development of projects and the creation of prototypes.
She received the title of Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and Science at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2009 and the qualification to the profession of engineer in 2006. She obtained a single-cycle degree in Computer Engineering with honors in 2005.
She is also co-founder and member of the Scientific Committee of Spin Off DataRiver srl which designs and develops solutions for data integration using techniques coming from research in the field of the Semantic Web since 2009.
She is a member of the Board of the International Doctoral School in ICT of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and a member of two Interdepartmental Research Centers at UNIMORE: DHMore on Digital Humanities and AIRI, the Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation Center. She is the author of more than 50 publications in scientific journals and international conference proceedings.
Starting from the next few months, she will be involved in two national research projects. The Ecosystem for Sustainable Transition in Emilia-Romagna (ECOSISTER), where she will be in charge of the development of an urban mobility model for a carbon-neutral society.
Lively Ageing, a project founded by the Italian Health Ministry within the Trajectory 1 “Active & Healthy Ageing.” In this project she will conduct the experimentation of a digital twin of the elderly guest capable of reflecting its evolution over time, identifying its routine and intercepting any variations, with the intention to improve housing conditions and quality of life and planning first aid/emergency services.
In the past, she led the European Project "TRAFAIR-Understanding Traffic Flows to Improve Air quality" co-financed by INEA CEF Telecom as part of the CEF-TC-2017-3 Public Open Data call from November 2018 to April 2021 and she has also been involved in several national and European research projects.
