Desde del grupo GITSE queremos transmitir a la familia de Manolo Silva nuestro más sentido pésame.
Nos ha impresionado recibir esta triste noticia. Poco podemos añadir a las numerosas reseñas y muestras de afecto anteriores a las que nos sumamos.
En este difícil momento simplemente queremos enviar a su familia y amigos más cercanos un abrazo muy fuerte.

Mi más profundo pésame en estos duros momentos. Espero y deseo que el enorme dolor que estáis sintiendo se vea aliviado pronto al recordar la vida y experiencias que habéis compartido.

I feel very sad about the news of Manuel's dead. During my research stays at Zaragoza and during several conferences it has been a pleasure for me to have discussions with Manuel on Petri nets and the development of the field.

Mi más sentido pésame a la familia, Todavía no me puedo creer que se nos haya ido de esta manera. El hueco que nos deja es irremplazable.

Manuel has been a pillar of our research community in the last forty years, has been instrumental in the development of the discrete event systems domain and has been a role model and a guide for scores of younger researchers. He has left, us but his scientific legacy and seminal contributions, his contagious enthusiasm, his limitless intellectual curiosity and his joie de vivres will always be with us.

Manuel has been a mentor and a friend to me since we first met in Troy while I was a PhD student at Rensselaer. We have shared in these 30 years so many activities and enjoyable moments.

My deepest condolences to Regina, Alejandro and Manuel and to all the friends at the University of Zaragoza.

In italiano, perchè ogni tanto a lui piaceva parlare nella "lengua nuestra"
Superfluo ricordarne i meriti scientifici, mi piace ricordare quando, in occasione del suo anniversario di matrimonio, venne in visita da me in Italia e mi chiese di portarlo al porto di Baia, ove era ubicata l'antica base navale dei Romani, presso Napoli. Stava infatti scrivendo un libro sull'arte militare. La sua gioia nel vedere ciò che avete sempre solo letto o immaginato era impressionante, quello sguardo voglio ricordare sempre di lui.

Dear Manuel, it has been an honor to meet you, to spend time with you in so many places all over the world. It has been an honor to work with you and write papers together. It has been an honor to visit you in Zaragoza. I will never forget you and your great enthusiasm for the life. As soon as I met you the first time, I have been surprised by how many passions you had, in addition to your work. I have so many history books written by you. This is really extraordinary! I also remember how close you were to your family, to all your friends, and to your students: for some of them you were almost like a father. I will never forget all of this! Rest in peace! Dear Manuel,

I was so sad to hear this news. You were not only a great researcher but a special man.
My best memories of you are in the WODES conference, with you refusing to talk to me in English and repeatedly speaking in Spanish, assuming I could perfectly understand everything (while of course I did NOT) and telling me with a wide smile “Llámame Manolo!” (Call me Manolo!).

Rest in peace.

Manuel has been an extraordinary researcher with a wonderful personality. He has inspired many researchers over the years and his passing is a great loss to the Petri net community.

El sentimiento es una profunda tristeza por la pérdida de un ser querido, pero a la vez es el momento el que se hace patente la inmensa fortuna de haber crecido y compartido una gran parte de mi vida al lado de un hombre como Manuel Silva.

The feeling is a deep sadness for the loss of a loved one, but at the same time it is the moment when the immense fortune of having grown up and shared a large part of my life next to a man like Manuel Silva becomes clear.

With great sadness I received the news of the passing of Manuel. A great researcher and very nice person. I remember and cherish many wonderful moments with him, especially at the various editions of the IFAC Conference on Analysis and Design of Hybrid Systems. We are going to miss him. My condolences to all his family and friends.

There are many researchers in our community, but few who have had the impact and the quiet leadership qualities that Manuel (Manolo) had. We will miss him as a colleague and a friend. He was an ambassador of Zaragoza and I fondly remember him sharing bits and pieces of its history with us. May he be a shining model for the next generation... Christos

I have known Manuel primarily through all his work in the Petri net area and the research group that he built and led in Zaragoza. All this work renders Manuel a great leader within the Petri net community. His work has also been a great source of inspiration for my own career development. His passing is a great loss for all of us.

I want to remember Manuel not only as the outstanding teacher, mentor, man of great culture but also as a friend.
As a mentor he was exceptional, he knew how to give you the right advice and with his enthusiasm he was able to direct you in the most promising lines of research.
As a friend I remember the conferences we attended together, the happy dinners, his visit to Bari, his interest in my son whom he met when he was very young.
Manuel will be deeply missed by our entire community.

It was always realy exiting and a great pleasure to have discussions with Manolo in Zaragoza or in Le Havre but also during several conferences.
I'm very sad about this terrible news.

Buenas tardes. Por mi edad, nunca llegué a conocerle en persona; no obstante, ello no implica que desconozca la importancia de sus acciones pioneras para la implantación de la carrera de Ingeniería Informática en Aragón.

I am very sad that Manuel has left us.

He was a dear friend and a model that has tremendous influence on me, both on the the personal and the professional side.

I treasure working with Manuel in co-chairing an the ADHS and WODES events, and I had the great honor & joy of being the promotor of his doctorate honoris causa

His big smile, his scientific authority and intellectual capacities and friendship will always be remembered by all of us.
My thoughts goes to his wife Regina. May she find peace and consolation in this devastating situation. Manuel will always remain in our hearts.

Recibí con mucha tristeza la noticia de la partida del Profesor Silva.

Mis estancias en la universidad de Zaragoza fueron de mucho aprendizaje, siempre estuve sorprendido por la gran capacidad intelectual, cultural, y de trabajo del Profesor Silva. En los congresos en los que coincidí con él, siempre admiré su capacidad de relacionarse y trabajar con colegas de todo el mundo.

En el aspecto personal, Manolo era un gran amigo. Él y Regi compartieron su tiempo y comida conmigo cuando estuve por Zaragoza, y compartimos otras cuantas cenas en México cuando nos visitaron para un congreso que organizamos. Me siento muy afortunado de haber contado con su amistad.

El Profesor Silva se queda en muchos de nosotros, para mí es una referencia a seguir como profesional y como persona.

Un abrazo a Regi y a sus hijos.

Esta Entidad y su Junta de Gobierno quieren expresar nuestras más sinceras condolencias a su esposa Doña Regina y a sus hijos por el fallecimiento del Ilustrísimo Manuel Silva y sentimos mucho la perdida de un ilustrado compañero con el que habíamos iniciado un viaje en lo que a él más le gustaba, la divulgación del conocimiento. Descanse en Paz y pedimos un reconocimiento a la labor de tantos años en el mundo humano de la ingeniería, por parte del mundo universitario al que nos uniriamos inmediatamente.

Manolo, estuvimos juntos en el colegio San Francisco de Paula en Sevilla, compartiendo cursos, los juegos en los recreos,etc.etc. a esa temprana edad, hicimos el Preu y nuestras vidas tomaron el rumbo de los estudios cada uno por su lado. No hace mucho tiempo nos volvimos a encontrar y conocí por donde habías caminado en la vida con tu encantadora esposa y me sentí muy orgulloso de toda vuestra trayectoria en la vida. Había recuperado a mi amigo de aquella infancia y empezamos a hacer proyectos porque no queríamos volver a separarnos y una maldita enfermedad ha impedido que ello se realize. Manolo te quiero amigo y para mí no te has ido, te has adelantado un paso más que a todos nos llegará en la vida.

Manolo, nos enteramos ahora de tu fallecimiento. Cada año más o menos nos hablábamos y nos mandabas tu pesebre del año. En las últimas décadas te has convertido en un referente en la historiografía de la técnica, una ocupación que algunos les podría parecer marginal, pero que tu, con tu ambición y talento, has llevado a un nivel insospechado. Tu obra de dirección y colaboración en "Técnica e Ingeniería en España" ya se había convertido en un clásico, pero con el tiempo se verá todavía más la solidez y rigor que le imprimiste. Has sido un colega como historiador de la técnica, y un amigo por tu manera de ser. Creo que todas las personas que le hayan tratado estarán de acuerdo. Mis sentimientos a Regina, sus hijos y familia.
Manolo te has ido demasiado pronto, nos dejas una obra impresionante, no te podemos olvidar.
